i did an experiment, and removed the text that followed the end of the digest. it turns out that this was why most standard "undigestify" commands failed on the digest. at the very least, meta-x undigestify-rmail-message in GNU Emacs 19.25 now works correctly. others probably do as well. cheers, richard
