ATF in gearbox

As someone queried:
"Since changing the oil in my manual gearbox, the gearchange has become
very stiff when the gearbox oil is cold. I used 80W90 oil in the
gearbox. This stiffness lessens as the gearbox oil warms up..."

We've been using ATF in our BMWs for 20 years in Toronto weather (+35
degrees in the summer; -15 in the winter -- Celsius) -- with nary a
problem & marked improved shifting from the OEM. We always forget to
make the change until the first gearchange of winter ownership
- -- and then we remember quickly. I forget which brand we use, though.
