84 535 Computer question.

A freind of mine has a 535 (1984) and has the following problem with its 
on board computer: 

- - The computer does not work properly, since he unplugged the battery.
 When reset, it does not give any indication. After plugging back the battery
 my friend hit 3 times the HR/DATE button, as indicated in the manual. Only 
 a series of "." is being displayed. When the car is running, four dots blinks
 continuously.

Anybody who may have an idea about what to do to it? Any help would be 
appreciated. Thanks.
