The other night my wife and I were heading out to dinner. I turned on
the windscreen washer and it came on normally as did the wipers, but
then they both just stayed on. and on. I turned the car off and then back
on,
and the washing/wiping stopped. Well no big deal. But his morning it
happened again, and turning the ignition off and on did nothing. I drove
about 1/2 mile before the fluid went empty; pump and wipers continued
to run, and they finally stopped about about 2 minutes later. Moving the
stalk, pounding the column, and abusive language seemed to have no effect.
This is in an 87 325iS.
Any suggestions?

PS: in my misspent youth, I owned 6 MGs, a TR6, a Vitesse, two Minis, a
Morris Traveler, and an XJ6. While my BMW is much better made and more
fun to drive than any of these, electrically it takes me back 20 years,
quickly
and not so nostalgically.
