My '73 2002tii has a switch on the side of the shift rod that runs
forward from the bottom of the shift lever to the transmission.
It is not mentioned anywhere in the BMW Workshop Manual or in the
owner's manual. It appears to be ineffectual as mounted or adjusted.
What is this switch for? (This is not the backup light switch, which
is screwed into the transmission case.)
