e28 Cold Air leak

Howdy,
On each side of the center console is the fan intake for the AC. I
have outside air coming in to the car via these openings. There is
greater flow when I have the fresh air vents closed. How can I stop
this without blocking fresh intake? Where is the fresh air intake
anyways? It blows right on to my knees. brrr...
The overall heat performance of my 533i does not seem as good as my
528i. Does anybody know if this is typical?
