[bmw] 535is stereo unlock

Dear all,

I am the owner of a used 535is (1987). When I bought the car the
previous owner was unaware of the five digit unlocking code of the
stereo. I have tried asking around at alarm/stereo shops but it seems
nobody can/is willing to unlock it.

Also I have been told it is a rebranded Alpine. 

Is there any way at all I can recover my code? Perhaps by contacting BMW
itself?
