E34 Rear Demister

My E34 525i rear demister seems to be on the blink. I checked the wiring
harnest that provides current
to the demister heating wires and there is a current running. However it
seems the current/voltage isn't going
across the rear glass heating wires. Suspected there is a break in actual
heating wires on the rear glass.
So the only way to rectify this problem would be to replace the entire rear
glass which is a costly affair!.

Anyone come across a similar problem like this?. Was it due to a defected
heating wires on the rear glass?.
