E39 Cats gone?

I have a sinking feeling the rattleing I'm hearing underneath my car is coming from one of my cats. Once the car warms up it quiets down, no other indications it can be anything else, and it also can explain why I have an intermittent 'check engine' light. I have an appointment to have the Inspection II service done (along with a LIST of other problems). The question I have is this - I have a friend that has upgraded his '02 M5 to a full Dinan exhaust and he has his OEM M5 exhaust kicking around the garage - will his front pipe(s) fit my car? If not what can I expect to pay for cats?
