Pete,
Two options: 
1. http://home.att.net/~ebaines/e36_radio.htm
2. buy a 5-sided BMW radio tool or take a small jeweler's screw drier and 
use it on the stripped 5-sided (not hex!) screw _while_ you are pushing 
the radio back into the dash. That should relieve the pressure from those 
bolts.
