fuel smell on start-up
Rick
Most BMW's have a recirculating fuel system. The pump delivers
more fuel than you use, so the excess is returned to the tank via the
pressure regulator (dump valve).
During cranking, prior to start-up, you get a pressure surge which
can squeeze fuel past hose clamps, or thru hose cracks.
Once the engine has started, and the pressure has dropped and
stabilized the leak may have stopped thus no more smell.
This should be looked into, as it will get worse.
