Re: [alfa] Re: R&R cylinders/pistons without pulling the engine (1969 GT coupe

Can I just add a few words in here. I have done the same job on 116 cars
with the engine in and it was easy, except for the rear sump pan bolts
(four).
I dont know how hard it is on a 105 but I can suggest that you only do this
if you know things like main bearings and rear main seal are ok.
Example. My old club car had only done about 40 thousand k's since an entire
rebuild. I had broken the top rings on all four pots due to poor fuel and a
hill which didnt suit the gear ratio's ie: lugging the car off cam in third,
or reving to hard in second. And just reving the car to hard. (sometimes I
look at the rev counter and its bouncing of the end...opps better change
gear. This is not hard to do when racing,
anyway). In this case I new everthing was ok so a quick re-ring was
justified. If the engine is just old then pull it out. Also another idea
which I use is to build a 2nd engine and swap them over on a weekend. In oz
an old alfa engine is easy to find for free if you know people.
Cheers,
Dean
