[alfa] Re: alfa-digest V9 #1186
Bert,
Don't put the longer bolts into the rotors unless you cut them off first. The
bolts are an odd length for a reason. The longer bolts will stick out and the
exposed threads will be subject to damage from all kinds of trash and debris.
RUST will also form in the exposed threads. The next time you have to remove
these bolts you will then either have to clean this gunk out -- which may be
extremely difficult if it happens to be rust and/or damage -- or you will have
to unscrew the bolts and risk dragging whatever through and damaging/stripping
the internal threads. If you damage the internal threads you may be in for a
costly repair. Retapping stripped threads between the brake rotor and the tire
contact patch is NOT a good idea!
Please be careful and take excessive pains with brake and 116 drive shaft
repairs. Any problems can cause serious loss of braking ability.
