[alfa] RE: Mosko's valuation comments

I have to concur with the sentiment that Alfa owners may be their own 
worst enemy when it comes to valuation of their cars, and it's a 
provincialism not limited to Alfas. A few years back, I had a low 
mileage 1967 Mercedes-Benz 200d that I purchased from the original 
owner. After two years of owning and loving it as fastidiously as the 
mechanical engineer who had it previously, I reluctantly decided to 
sell it to raise some a little capital.

Thinking I was doing a favor to people who would truly enjoy the 
beautifully preserved Finback, I mentioned the car and my asking 
price -- $6000 -- to the readers of the Old Mercedes Digest and heard 
nothing but flames and ridicule about my asking price. So, instead, I 
advertised it locally (this was before eBay really took off) and sold 
to the first person who looked at it. The willingness with which he 
paid $6000 made me wonder if I could have gotten more.

Of course, I am the guy who paid $6995 for a 1969 Berlina, so what do 
I know?  ;-)
