Re: [alfa] Direction of the club
A good club is generally one that does a good job of deciding its
members. Fully open communites rarely stay that way.
Currently the only way into the Alfa club is living with an old car is a
significant barrier to entry. I think this does at least a reasonable
job of keeping out the riff-raff. Only an enthusiast (or the insane,
both?) would bother with an Alfa at this point.
That said, I'm not too worried that things will change if new Alfas ever
reach our shores. I think it will be a long time before Alfas are
being purchased by the sort of folks who would buy them to prove a
point... the folks the BMW and Porsche enthusiasts have to deal with.
It will also be a long time (at least for the majority of Alfas) before
our cars are too valuable to drive.
Guilty Admission: I'm not currently a member of any Alfa-related club
(unless you count the digest.) There is no local chapter (Pittsburgh,
PA) which doesn't help. Although I'm not sure how much that matters.
I don't belong to any other clubs either.
