[alfa] Starter running on...
chicken or the egg.
Twice I've turned the ignition off on '69 Spider and the starter has
continued to turn. Fortunately, neither time did the engine start before
battery cable was pulled. Whew!
Logic said to check the ignition switch for the red and black (to
solenoid) contacts. Yes, the ohm meter showed continuity when closed.
Checking a loose '69 Spider ignition, it did as expected and only showed
contact when ignition key was turned fully clockwise.
However, and not surprisingly, the main + to starter and solenoid wires
also showed continuity with ignition off.
The main positive cable looks fine. The 10 or 12 gauge wire which also
runs from the starter to the battery is hard as a rock but from what I
can see, looks okay.
Where would you start, assuming you also bill your time - get a new
ignition switch, or pull the starter and check out solenoid? Or?
Oh yeah, car has been started, run, and shut off successfully several
times since being in the shop.
