[alfa] Re: Leaking 105 gearbox
Dave,
Oil only leaks down and back. So chase your oil leak as far forward and
as far up as you can and that is where the leak is coming from. If it is
dripping out the bottom of the bell housing, probably the input shaft seal is
leaking. The transmission has to come out of the car to fix it. Unbolt the
bell housing and remove it from the front of the transmission then you can
replace the seal in the bell housing.

Subject: [alfa] Leaking 105 gearbox
Hi Everybody,
Rusty the spider has developed a bit of a leak at the gearbox but I'm
having trouble determining exactly where the oil is coming out.
It seems to be coming from the bell housing rather than the rear
of the gearbox, although it could be dripping to the lowest point before
hitting the ground.
Ashamedly, I know bugger all about the 105 alfa gearbox having spent
most of my Alfa life staring at the Alfetta transaxle (of which I never
had an example that leaked more than the occasional drip).
Any idea where I should start looking? I thought the two halves might not
be buttoned up together properly, or perhaps there was a front seal that
has died and is threatening to soak the clutch with gearbox oil.
Any tips appreciated.
dave.
