[alfa] re: Alfa's direction

snip...

The Americans have never, ever come close to what the
Japanese have
done.

I never cease to be amazed at the American business
mindset. Here, the
attitude is almost always, "Yeah, we've got a product
that's a piece of
crap, but we can use advertising to scam people into
buying it." The
thought of actually talking with customers to find out
what they want,
and
then (of all things) producing it, never enters the
realm of
possibilities.

I went to see the Chrysler Crossfire the other day.
$35k for a plastic/leather interior with bits of
plastic painted chrome to "look" titanium. What the
heck is going on here? The interior of a 13+ year 164
still completely blows it away! What was
Daimler/Chrysler thinking? Alfa does have a design
advantage, but I really think Chrysler has a
mechanical advantage. I'm still dismayed by the 3
liter tensioner. It's real simple, if Alfa went back
to 6 cylinders with timing chains, you will see more
Alfas here!
