[alfa] Re: alfa-digest V9 #1133 PB Blaster

Digesti,

Many thanks for your responses regarding availability of PB blaster. I had
never heard of the stuff until seeing the many references on the digest, and
will check the local Auto Zone store.

Regarding Square D Company recommending PB blaster for use in their
electrical "Boxes". The Square D plant in Lexington, KY puts warning labels
in products warning against application of any solvent based paint, spray,
or lubricant on plastic components. Almost all of the old thermoset plastic
applications have been replaced by thermoplastic materials and WD-40 or
anything similar acts like a stress reliever to some of these; causing
failure of parts with structural or insulating function. Data sheets of
material like General Electric Noryl (modified polyphenelyne oxide) list
solvent resistant properties and, the more volatile the solvent, the faster
the failure. Specifically, amorphous thermoplastic is affected where
crystalline thermoplastic is not. I suspect most automotive applications
recognize the issue of solvent/oil contamination and materials are chosen
accordingly.

Alfa content: I'm gonna use PB blaster where needed on my Alfas.
