<snip>
Yes, I actually did away with mine years ago. Not long after replacing
the center section with new (expensive!) parts, the new center muffler
had an altercation with something that split it open. I decided it
needed more clearance so I had a pipe made that goes from the cat to a
Supertrapp muffler all the way at the rear....<snip>...
I have been thinking about adding a very low profile muffler back in to
the system and making a hole in the Supertrapp endcap..
hello alfisti
I am contemplating removal of my 93 spider center muffler.
Has anyone done this? any commenets re: the exhaust note.
how loud, how pleasing, displeasing/ any changes in
performance noted? any disadvantages?
all help apreciated
My personal opinion is that the center muffler is the most important in
determining the sound of a 105/115 Alfa. Without a center muffler the
exhaust note is too loud for my preference. The size of the center muffler
"can" varies among the Ansa, OEM and aftermarket replacements. The smaller
"can" size will produce a louder exhaust than the larger can, but since
they are straight through designs, I doubt there is much performance
enhancement offered by smaller/louder center mufflers, but (IMHO) the sound
is a more pleasing note. The absence of the center muffler produces an
exhaust note too boomy a for extended driving or conversation with a passenger.
