[alfa] re: Milano Brake Master Cylinder replacement?
I don't know about the 164 part, but the only problem that a bigger
MC would cause with stock calipers would be increased pedal effort,
which you probably wouldn't mind if it's not extreme. Right now you
probably have to apply ~30lbs. of force to the pedals to lock the
wheels. I believe the stock master cylinder has a 22mm bore, giving
an area of 3.8 square centimeters. The increase in required pedal
effort will be proportional to the increase in cross-sectional area
of the bore of the larger master cylinder. The pis and twos actually
cancel out and you can divide the square of the bore diameter of the
larger cylinder by the square of the bore diameter of the smaller
cylinder, and the result will be the factor by which the pedal effort
will be increased (until you fit larger calipers).
Hope that helps,
Joe

Subject: [alfa] Milano Brake Master Cylinder replacement?
Here's another one for the group -
I have ended up having to replace my clutch master cylinder on my
project Milano - what a PITA! Well since I have that pedal box out - I was
thinking about other modifications that I might want to make in that area. I
remember hearing that if you want to run bigger brake callipers it
is nessicary to
run a bigger brake master cylinder and that one from a 164 will bolt right up
and provide the necesary increased volume. My first question is, has anyone
done this and is it true that it will bolt right up? My secound
question is: I
have not yet changed the brake calipers from stock and probably will not do so
for awhile - will the bigger master cylinder cause problems with my stock
brake calipers?
Thanks for any help with this question!
