I've never tried it, so I can't say conclusively, but.... one of the "old
tricks" racers use in classes where you have to run stock rods and pistons
is to flip the pistons around so the offset goes the "wrong" way.

    David Simmons of Tulsa always installs the pistons "backwards."  He 
claims it raises the RPM at which peak torque is achieved.  Or something like that. 
 I always put the pistons in per the book.
    And I thought all Alfa pistons had offset pins.  I am not aware of any of 
the 1750 pistons having the pin in the center.
