[alfa] Re: nearside/offside



..the probable reason this has remained in popular usage is that there is quite an amount of travel between the british isles and mainland europe. the common use of "nearside" to mean the side nearest the curb/verge avoids the confusion caused when referring to "drivers side" and "passanger side" etc. when you arrive in france from the uk your "nearside" switches to the right? thus little rules of thumb like "passing nearside to nearside where possible at four way junctions" still apply..
