Re:[alfa] crankshaft pulley nut

Hi Nan:

Many, but certainly not all of us, remove the two bottom water pump studs to get the water pump past the crankshaft pulley. This is done by double-nutting the studs, that is, putting on two nuts and tightening them against each other. The inside nut can then be turned counterclockwise and will turn the stud with it. Upon replacing the pump, bolts can be used in place of those two studs. The bolts needed are 6x25mm, and you'll have to use two washers on each to keep them from bottoming inside the timing cover.

If you must remove the crankshaft nut, the best way is to use an impact wrench, but I don't recall what size socket fits an '88.

Regards

Dean
