[alfa] Re: alfa-digest V9 #961

One of the interesting things about the GTV-6 is although I've never seen(nor heard of anyone owning) a GTV-6 with power steering, I have the original owner's manual for mine (an '86) and it clearly has a section in it about caring for the power steering option! So it was obviously offered in the '86 model, but it seems that none were fitted with it. I'd love to see just one factory installed system just to see what they did about that huge windshield-washer tank bolted to the driver's side inner fender well. The PS pump won't clear it, and with that tank in place, there is nowhere to mount the PS reservoir.

Anyway, Richard, if I were at Lime Rock and you challenged me about the PS, I could whip-out my owner's manual and show where it was a factory option (even though mine was fitted later), So what would the rules say then?

I did
NOT find the steering significantly harder on the Milano than my son's
GTV6.
2 years ago i impounded the ITA field at a Lime Rock SCCA event,
and made them produce their shop manuals and explain the relationship
between the steering gear described in the manual and the steering gear
which actually appeared in their cars (changes to the steering are strictly
against the IT rules in SCCA racing.)

it was interesting how many VW products had neatly disconnected
power steering hoses; they liked the ratio in the racks, though, so
they just filled the racks up with gear lube and kept using them as
manual racks.

nobody seemed to have overdeveloped arms or anything.

i, on the other hand, got an overdeveloped right hand from filling
out all the paperwork that i had to send up to the chief steward.
