Fiat has been closing lots of things in a drastic belt-tightening
program. They used to have press office in New York and they closed it
last January, so this new closing doesn't exactly surprise me. I was
under the impression that ARDONA was in Florida, however. Also, the
"official" return of Alfa to North America is, indeed, 2007 and has
been so for more than a year. But be aware that it could be pushed back
at any time. They've done it at least three times since the millennium
year, and could certainly do it again.

Subject: [alfa] Fiat closing R&D Unit in Michigan?
The following came to me from a usually reliable source:
- ---- Original Message ----
Did you know that Fiat suddenly closed its R&D center in Farmington
Hills,
Michigan this week? Everyone is unemployed. Some were longtime ARI and
ARDONA people, such as Bob Parks.
Also, my sources say privately that Alfa's scheduled return in 2004
will not happen.
- ---- End of Message ----
I was under the impression that the latest "official" North American
return date for
Alfa Romeo was 2007, not 2004.
