[alfa] [NotAlfa] - Brake questions

A friend accidentally put something other than brake fluid in his brakes.
He _thinks_ it was power steering fluid, since the bottles can often be
the same shape as brake fluid bottles, but it is possible he put in
motor oil, or something else. This is in a 1993 Mitsubishi Diamante. His
mechanic is telling him that he will need to replace just about everything
in his brake system, including master cylinder and all brake lines.

Does this sound right? Or is there a way to salvage the lines, or anything
else, by flushing the system? The repairs are expected to be in the $2000
range.

And, yes, he does know better, and he knows it was a stupid thing to do.
He got in a hurry and was really careless.
