[alfa] 146 security / key problems
William,
This might sound silly but have you tried contacting the previous owner? If
you bought it from a dealer and don't know who the previous owner is I'm
sure you could find out with some research. And even then if you bought it
from a dealership surely they started it many times while moving it around
or doing a pre-check on the car that they just bought to re-sell. They
probably have the key somewhere.
The next step would be to call Alfa Romeo UK. I can't imagine that any car
company would ever sell a car that HAD to have one and only one specific key
for it to be able to start. There HAS to be a way to program in a new key
or to order a new key from a dealership. I think that the dealerships that
you spoke to are either mistaken or are trying to take you for a pound (or a
thousand of them).
Get on the phone and ring Alfa Romeo Uk and get the information straight
from the horses mouth.
If they confirm what the dealership has told you then at least you know that
it really is a stupid design. But I strongly believe otherwise!!!!!!!!
