[alfa] Washington road salt project report
Fall of 2002, this project was big news to residents around the recently salt-virgin
roads to be tested and it was discussed with some interest on the AD list. I am passing
along the recent reply from the WA DOT. I will say that they responded to all my
inquiries and sent the report when complete. The reoprt link is in the left-hand menu
bar, at the end of the first portion.
Apparently, "not making any immediate policy changes" as stated in the preamble may
give us Wa(r)shingtonians some relief. The summary begins on page 37 of the .pdf
document and notes some interesing findings, especially in regard to aluminium
corrosion. And, because of the mild winter and originally limited corrosion analysis,
they recommend extending the program another year. Whoopie!

Dear Dr. Wise
Last Year, you had communicated with the Washington State Department of
Transportation (WSDOT) regarding an evaluation of salt for snow and ice
control purposes that was conducted during the winter of 2002-03. A
report has been completed that documents the findings of this evaluation. If
you're interested in reading the report, it is available on the WSDOT
webiste via the enclosed link.
