[alfa] Spica vs Weber

On Sept. 26th Sherwood White Wrote: "they were not only cleaner running

while you are trying to adjust that choke and the carbs are spitting the
spica car is already gone"

As someone that has driven a '78 Alfetta with its original Spica and
later with Webers I beg to disagree over the superiority of Spica over
Webers for winter use. The Spica always required ether to start at any
temps below zero f while the Webers started with no problem down to -20
f, no spitting, etc. The drivability with the Webers was excellent with
none of the annoying backfire of the Spica. Now granted the Spica had
about 60,000 miles on it before we converted to carbs but aside from an
emissions standpoint I would run Webers any day.

When asked if they had starting problems in the winter, the wife of a
friend with an Alfetta replied - You can walk past that car on a hot day
with an ice cream cone and it won't start.

And speaking of hot days, it also suffered from vapor-lock problems when
shut off. Yes, it always eventually started but only because we had a
good battery. Hot starting problems became a thing of the past with the
Webers.

I'm not trying to bad mouth Spica systems just relating my personal
experiences.
