Actually, it's pretty much made for use on assembly. It doesn't seem to inhibit metal-to-metal contact when you reassemble, and protects what isn't in contact.

I couldn't find a definitive source to back me up (the Permatex website doesn't seem to have the techincal datasheet availible), but if you search google you'll find hundreds of websites that advocate usage on assembly. I've certainly never had a problem using it, in cars or computers. According to one of the websites I've found it works great for waterproofing boots too!
