Hi Jason:

The cable loop is held to the front of the top by a rivet.  When I did the 
top on my '74 I left the rivets in place, as the heads protruded just 
enough to loop the cables over them.  The rivet head is flat, maybe 10mm 
across, and the shaft is maybe 4mm in diameter.  Have you gotten to the 
point in removing the old top to where you can see if the rivets are resent 
in your car?  On the same subject, on previous Spider's I've never even 
bothered to replace the top cables, which were always missing, and  on both 
my '74 & '87 the cables are now just a bit loose, as they stretch.  I can't 
tell the difference between no cables, tight cables, or loose cables.  I'm 
not really sure what they're supposed to be doing.  The OEM Italian-made 
top on my '87 couldn't look better, and the top on my '74, well, it's a 
Caribou, so it's tighter than a drum head and the layers of fabric 
delaminating.  Caveat emptor.
