Re: [alfa] 164 cabin fuel vapor smell

Mark,

I would look in four areas in the following order. First, check the engine
compartment hoses particularly the rubber line that feeds the fuel rail.
Also, check the fuel pressure regulator for tight connections and also for a
internal leak. With engine running, remove the vacuum hose from the intake
plenum to make sure no fuel is being sucked through. Second, check the fuel
filter plumbing located underneath on the passenger side just forward of the
rear wheel - again with engine running. Third, check the fuel vapor
canister and attached plumbing in the trunk for loose connections. Fourth
place is the fuel tank/pump plumbing. A bit of work getting to this area,
but check to make sure that the return and supply hose fitting at the tank
are not leaking.

One other tip is to check for fuel system integrity. Install a pressure
gauge at the fuel rail. Pressure should be about 37 to 40 psi. Turn off
engine and observe pressure. System should hold the pressure with ho leak
down. Leak down could indicate a leak .
