bedding in rings
What is the general consensus as to when the break-in period is
completed and if the break in is successful? The Owner's Manual
says that after 1,000 miles there are no longer any RPM restrictions,
so I presume that the break in is complete at that point, but I have
heard that sometimes rings do not seat completely until after 1,200
miles or even longer depending on the rings used, so is it oil consumption
or what?

I have 1,200 miles on my newly re-built 2.0 Liter Spider now and the
oil consumption has been negligible, ie. about 1/4 liter, so I presume
that the rings are well seated.

Ron,
It's mentioned in the Alfa Bible. The stuff that is suggested is: Bon
Ami. It contains feldspar, and that's what does the trick.
Note there are two types of Bon-Ami, you want the original stuff.
It will take the glaze of the rings... and the bearings, cams, etc...
Good luck.
