RE: Rapping Noise Upper End 1986 Graduate
It may sound strange, but it's easy to check. Check for a loose A/C belt.
I had a strange rapping noise on an 86 Grad that I used to own, & it turned
out to be a loose A/C belt. The loose belt caused the compressor to vibrate
even if it wasn't on. The vibration traveled through the A/C lines to the
receiver/dryer, which almost touches a frame rail on the passenger's side.
The receiver/dryer would vibrate against the frame rail, & the resulting
noise would travel throughout the car. A new A/C belt took care of the
problem.
That may not be your problem, but it's easy enough to check.
