GTV6 bumper struts

Does anyone know what is inside the shocks that connect the bumpers to the car? I know there are a bunch of warning labels painted on them, but I don't know if they are serious or just there for decoration ;)
I have an '84 gtv6 that was lightly rear ended at some point, permanently compressing the rear bumper mounting shocks. Now I am trying to remove the rear bumper, but unfortunately I can't unbolt the bumper from the passenger side shock due to some extremely rusty fasteners and I can't unbolt the shock from the rest of the vehicle for similar reasons (rusty fasteners and lack of access on the passenger side mount). I have been contemplating getting out the trusty sawzall and cutting the shock, but I don't know if it will explode, gush oil all over the place, shoot a small powerful spring through my garage door or just shower me in a sea of confetti made from finely chopped lira. Does anyone know what these are filled with?

thanks,
