I don't buy the jumped timing diagnosis but a simple check, especially for
bent valves) is to rotate the engine by hand.  Remove the plugs so that you
can feel any abnormal resistance.  If the timing is off enough to bend
valves, you will feel a definate "stop" where the interference occurs.
Also, if the PO marked the cams so that timing can be checked without
removing the valve covers, you can check the timing - off more than two
teeth and you almost certainly have bent valves.

Basics.  Try the "fuel, air, spark" approach. Fuel pressure check, AFM
plumbing, and spark via the coil/distributor.

Or, get thee to a friendly Alfa mechanic for some real help.
