From my reading of the article, GM is trying to get
out of the Put option, in other words they are no
longer interested in acquiring ailing Fiat.  It does
read that Fiat is the one interested in exercising the
Put, which allows Fiat to force GM to buy that part of
Fiat defined in the original agreement.  So the
problem is not GM's money grubbing hands, it is Fiat
desperate need for a sugar daddy.
