RE: fusing blowing, low idle
The FCS takes its power from #6 circuit. Try removing the spade terminal from
the FCS and then drive the car again and see if the fuse blows. If the spade
terminal on the top of the FCS is turning the internals, then you probably do
get an intermittent short. Another possibility is a shorting wire in the
microswitch chamber on the bottom of the pump. Try disconnecting the
microswitch from the electrical system by disconnecting the spade terminal on
the right inside fenderwell.
If you're getting a lot of backfiring even with the FCS disconnected, it may
be that your pump is out of calibration. The internal fuel cutoff mechanism
should eliminate most of the backfiring, that is, unless the mixture, rod
lengths, etc are incorrectly set. Could be the reason for the low idle as
well.
