GTV-6 Cooling System Pressure
Josh,
My shop manual says 12.8-15.6 lb. per sq. inch. However, the cap I bought last year from the local Alfa Shop opens at 9 PSI. This was a brand new and correct Alfa supplied part unless they got confused - they don't usually.
My coolant reservoir opened at the seam as most newer ones do and the car ran with probably less than a couple of pounds for 6 weeks last fall. It stayed nice and cool. When I went through the cooling system to bring it up to spec, I pressure tested the cap and figured 9 PSI is sufficient. I tested the system to the same pressure and figure I will be OK. I've run in 88 F weather since with no problems.
It is a bit much for a hobby mechanic like me but I did finally buy a Stant cooling pressure tester which helped me locate a leak and of course test the cap. I highly recommend the $80 at NAPA investment. Saved $25 worth of Mercedes coolant and the hassle and frustration of being off the road during the Prime season.

Subject: GTV (and other Alfa's for curiosity) cooling system psi?
Greetings all,
I was wondering if anyone knew the correct pressure for the cap on the
coolant reservoir for GTV6's. Mine failed a pressure test, so I replaced it with a
Stant 7psi cap. Is this correct, or should the should I be running a 15psi cap?
