Re:Turbo Charged Spider?
"Fiat spider was turbo charged for some years, how come no one try turbo
charging the 2L Spider? Does anyone know if the Fiat turbo would work on
Alfa?"
Louis,
Alfa did turbocharge their 4 cylinder for the European market. I don't
know if they did the 2 liter per se, but all the hardware exists and
should be adaptable to your motor. If you were feeling particularly
ambitious, you could use the stock EU setup, put a bigger turbo and a
programmable EFI system (with knock sensors) on your motor. Just know
that there is a lot of work and money involved in even that relatively
turn-key solution.
Mark Weiner, an Alfa club member in Colorado Springs, Colorado, built a
turbo spider that was written up in the Alfa Owner some years ago. Mark
gave me a ride around a local track in it once and it was very fast. He
blew it up after several years of service last summer. If I remember
correctly, a very small and inexpensive part suffered a preventable
failure. He was going to repair it and sell the motor so he could build
a 2.0 version using a twinspark motor and monosleeve cylinder bores. If
you're interested in his old motor, contact me off line and I can put
you in touch with him.

Lawrence
