Re: Dual-Point Distributor to Crane Electronic Ignition

Yes, you can install a Crane ignition in your Marelli distributor. However,
you need to make it a "single-point" distributor. Using dual points would
require two Crane systems, and two Crane Systems will electronically
interact with each other causing high fallutin misfiring. Believe me, I
tried it, and after two weeks of messing with it I phoned Crane and one of
their Technical people said "won't work - rewire it to be a single-point
unit using a single Crane system".

When I speak of "single-point" you understand you are actually discarding
the mechanical points and installing the Crane optical trigger in it's
place. Final thing you should do is purchase their corresponding hi-output
coil, and replace your ignition wires with good ones if they're old.

When it's installed you will be very pleased with your smooth running
engine, an ignition system that never misfires, and will no longer require
setting of points and ignition timing. It's as close to maintenance-free as
you can get.
