Darren,

The o-ring serves as a seal for the lip seal holder. Press the seal holder
(a separate machined piece) up into the cylinder bore for the tensioner
piston (after removing the piston from the bore and the lip seal from the
seal holder). Then, replace the o-ring between the inside of the bore of the
main body and the seal holder machined piece. I never even knew that was
there until Fred showed me in 1982...
