RE: steel/galvanization
Good morning, all:
I am only looking at 91-94 Spiders. I have searched the archives and not
found an answer to this question: why is it that every one I have looked at
(three so far) here in the Northwest (Seattle area) has rust on it in weird
places? I know about the spare tire well, and the area around the battery,
but what about rust bubbling through on the hood or trunk lid, around the
taillights, or along the top edge of a door?
It is damp here, true, but we get less rain than Houston or Florida, for
example. They also generally do not salt the roads here. So does anyone know
anything about this issue? Did Alfa (or did Pininfarina build the coachwork
in 91-94?) never improve its paint process? Was the paint process just not
so great? Did they never galvanize? Did they use low-grade steel for the
body panels? There are lots of other 10 to 12 year old cars out there not
rusting. Just wondering why Alfas appear to be more prone to rust than other
cars. Thanks.
