Re: VIN# vs chassis # - '83 GTV6

Heinrick:

As you probably know, your car is part of the ALFA 116 model as was it's predecessor the Alfetta GT for example my '75 was a 116 29. However the US Federal Government in it's wisdom decided to code all kinds of useful information for regulating the motor vehicle into a mandated Vehicle Identification Number. Hence, different #'s on the chassis and windshield plate. Makes me wonder is that an international standard now? Was it actually part of a move to a standard sn? Anyone know?

Is it common knowledge that Alfa Romeo changes the #'s on GTV6's. I have
a discrepancy between the # stamped on the bulkhead and the # on my CA
title as well as the plate in the windshield.

Bulkhead: ZAR11669000005034
VIN: ZARAA6697D1005034

I kinda know how to read the numbers on both, but I'd like to know if
there are others who have noticed this.
