RE: Broken Tachometer - '84 spider

<The tachometer on my '84 spider does not work. My mechanic said I
don't
need it. I know he's right but I'd still like to get it working again.
Where can I send it to be fixed? I'm located in southern California.>

Chris,
I'm not questioning your mechanics judgement but there several factors
that could affect the functioning of your tachometer. Substitution
would definitely prove if your tach is defective. Otherwise your tach
needs power, a ground connection, and connection to the negative side
of the ignition coil to function properly. I could not guarantee any
ground connection on any 19 year old Alfa, and the same goes for the
other two connections. With a cheap multimeter yu could verify these
connections before throwing in the towel. Also, tachometers for
Spiders come up for sale quite often on ebay.
