Bill,
Don't take the whole dash apart; its a monumental undertaking! Just
remove a screw from under the tach pod and the front hood part comes
off. Then two more easy phillips screws and the tach comes forward
a few inches enough to access the lights. If you want to remove it
entirely, mark carefully which color wire goes where and only remove
one wire at a time, replacing its nut so everything stays tight inside
the tach. Also, make sure to replace the alternator warning light in
its own socket.
The instrument lights in the center console requires you disassemble
the console and remove the radio. You can then reach under to pull
out the instrument lights one by one. It helps to have first removed
the tach to learn how each light comes out. Don't forget to disconnect
the ground terminal of the battery before you attack the console or
sparks will fly and lots of bad things will start happening. While
you're at it I'd replace ALL the instrument lights so you won't have
to do this again for another ten years! Good luck!
