Oh, Kamm on: more iconoclasm

The references to Kamm tails "sucking exhaust fumes into the cockpit" have
persisted since I don't know when. Remedies have largely centered around
microscopically sealing the trunk and fitting donkey dong tail pipes;
conventional wisdom is that we can't drive Spiders with the tops up and
windows half down w/o inducing stupor. (We're probably still not as bad as
the average S*V dope on h** cell phone.)

The question has come up in the Institute of Empirical Blunders: how on earth
does that flat tail manage to suck ALL those toxic fumes through the trunk
seal, into the cockpit? The hypothesis, without the benefit of knowledge or
anything resembling proof: It ain't, not always.

I think most of the Spider fumes I've seen have come from oil onto the exhaust
header or exhaust leaks such as a hole in a muffler feeding into an eddy which
leads into a cockpit vacuum through displaced firewall grommets, shifter, or
e-brake boots. You can formulate your own guesses why there's such a vacuum
in the cockpit w/o a cell phone. None of us would be seen with one, would
we?

Besides, you can't hear shyte in a Spider.

Your empirical evidence is welcome. I just don't think the system for sucking
exhaust fumes through the trunk seal, through the whole trunk, and into
whatever little leaks in the rear cockpit bulkhead is efficient enough to make
us so sleepy.
