GTV6 Windshield Wipers - motor installation

Folks - an odd one here that I'm sure has an easy answer.  I'm trying to
reinstall the wiper motor, it was not installed when I bought the car.  Motor
seems to be installed in the only manner possible; three bolts thru the
bracket into the wiper motor, with the splined part that rotates (the thing
the wiper arm connects to) up thru the bracket as well.   The splined stud,
screw or whatever ya want to call it has a groove that seems to match-up with
a dimple on the inside of the hole at the end of the wiper arm.  When
installed thusly, the wipers are about 1/3 the way up the windshield and when
wipers activated, go too far and the left wiper goes off the side of the
windshield.   What's the trick????  There's some way to adjust that sucker!
