Nevr-Seize on lugnuts

Mr. Shorey sez: "I understand that the torquing specs are intended for dry,
and maybe I
torque to the high end of the range to account for the never-seize, but
have you seen failures due to the use of never-seize? Or, if it's not
used, how do you typically remove the frozen ones?"

Brian, I have in fact had it happen twice, to lug nuts torqued carefully to 75
ft.lb. Both instances were on my Sport Sedan with Turbina wheels; who knows
but they might be more prone to loosening for some reason. After an extreme
tussle one icy winter evening getting the wheels off my dearly missed Fiat
Brava, I thought using NevrSeize was a great idea. (That episode required a
propane torch to break the lug nuts loose.)

I had used a full thead bead of NevrSeize when the Sport Sedan wheels came
loose, but all four lug nuts had backed off both times. Presumably there is
an amount between none and what I used that will do the job w/o having ones
wheels fall off, and you have probably found it. Now, the wheels are off my
cars frequently enough to preclude corrosion or sticking, even without
NevrSeize.
